About Us

Greetings,

I founded Northeast Maintenance Services in 1990. At about the age of 26. But my actual business career probably started about 1978, when in the summer before eighth grade I started working as a custodian's assistant for the town of Bedford.. The job was 7 AM to 3 PM Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week. So much for summer vacation. There was a special program at the time, for jobs for young people, and with the help of my Dad and my motivation to buy a dirt bike, I took this job. I will say, my first day was pretty miserable. I remember the supervisor ( Peter) bringing me into a building, that was the high school's "A " Wing, and supplying me with a 5 gallon bucket, water detergent and a sponge and pointing to lockers on both sides of the hallway, that seemed to stretch out as far as I could see. He said my first responsibility was to clean and scrub each locker of all the dirt and graffiti. I probably wouldn't have lasted if it wasn't for the fact I really wanted a dirt bike and the band the cars was becoming popular at the time.

I was assigned to an older custodian who really put me to work. After the lockers, I got to clean and scrub the bathrooms. I think I had a phobia of bathrooms at the time which made this a little more difficult than the lockers.

He was busy working on other important maintenance issues and would leave me to fend for myself. Sometime later in that summer, needing some direction, I sought out the older custodian, to find him sleeping in the maintenance closet. That was about the time I decided to "mutiny". I sought out Peter the supervisor and let him know that I didn't want to work with this gentlemen, as it seemed that I was, possibly, being taken advantage of. Fortunately, before I gave up my dreams of that dirt bike, he reassigned me to another custodian by the name of Al. He was much younger, grew up in Bedford, and was a good football player for the town. He worked at the junior high school. And my impression was he was a mix between "Lou Costello" (from the old show Abbott and Coustllo) and a member of the motorcycle club, the "Hells Angels". Both associations rendered me considerable respect and entertainment.

At that point of my career my job got much more rewarding. We worked hard and shared the hard work fairly. And were rewarded by the opportunities during our off time and breaks to play basketball and floor hockey in the gyms throughout the school system. I really loved floor hockey and at one point that really took off for all us young kids who stayed in the system throughout high school to work our summer vacations away. Another story though.

At around 10th to 11th grade I remember getting tired of going from $2.25 an hour to $2.35 an hour. Though I did finally achieve my dream of having a dirt bike., Thanks to help from my Dad. Suzuki RM 100 modified for motocross racing.

I decided to start my own business with my best friend Tim called C&T Window Cleaning. Funny though, because maybe a year before, while working at the junior high school, a reporter from the local town paper, took a picture of me washing windows. It was in the local paper and Al and the other guys I worked with posted the picture on the bulletin board and said this is what you will do for a living. I was pretty mad because at the time I was thinking I was going to be some kind of doctor, scientist or astronaut. 0r something along those lines.

We created C @ T Window Cleaning flyers and put them in mailboxes (we didn't realize it was illegal) throughout the neighborhood and soon started getting customers. I continued to work summers for the school system through my senior year but the business I built with my best friend started working.
